Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel welcomed Homer CY Chang, Director General of the Mumbai-based Economic and Cultural Centre of Taiwan, in Gandhinagar. Chang showed a strong interest in strengthening trade relations with Gujarat, especially in the semiconductor and electronics sectors.

Chang, who attended the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference-2024, had a one-on-one meeting with Patel at Mahatma Mandir. He expressed his desire to increase trade relations and requested support from the Indian and Gujarat governments to attract Taiwanese investors. Chang also proposed opening a State Office of Taiwan in Gujarat to enhance cultural exchanges.

Chief Minister Patel emphasized the state government’s willingness to collaborate with Taiwan. He highlighted the potential of Dholera and Sanand for developing high-end electronics industries and sought Taiwan’s expertise in building Semicon City, similar to Taiwan’s Shinsu Science Park.

Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Rajkumar, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary Industries Department S.J. Haider, and Principal Secretary Science Technology Mona Khandhar, attended the meeting. Patel also shared details of the meeting on his official X handle, discussing the potential for collaboration in the semiconductor and electronics sectors.
