Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel Leads Highway Repairs After Heavy Rains

Gandhinagar (Gujarat), September 1: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed the Road Construction Department to urgently repair highways damaged by heavy rains. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), repair work is being conducted on a war footing in areas like Vadodara-Vapi, Rajkot-Jetpur, and Chiloda-Himatnagar.

Chief Engineers, guided by Secretaries, are managing these operations from Gandhinagar. Local collectors, in-charge ministers, and secretaries are reviewing the progress in all talukas. The National Highways Authority of India is collaborating with the state government for these repairs.

A total of 466 teams with around 6,487 workers are involved in the repair efforts. Immediate diversions have been made to restore traffic flow where structures have collapsed, and advisory boards have been installed. Field offices have been instructed to re-verify all structures and take necessary safety measures.

Earlier, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited Devbhumi Dwarka district to review relief efforts after heavy rainfall. He held a review meeting at the Dwarka Collector’s office with Chief Secretary Raj Kumar, receiving updates on damages, evacuations, and rescue operations. The district reported damage to homes, loss of livestock, and human casualties.

Following a request from the Gujarat government, six columns of the Indian Army are conducting rescue operations in the worst-affected areas. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already rescued 95 people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel of all possible support from the Central government.
