He shared an instance of Prime Minister Modi’s compassion during Cyclone Tauktae, where PM Modi guided sensitive care for both humans and wildlife. CM Patel also praised the efforts of the Maldharis (cattle herders) and local residents who have contributed to the increasing population of Asiatic lions in Gir.

Environmental Initiatives

CM Patel referenced the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ tree-planting initiative led by the Prime Minister, highlighting the importance of national pride and environmental conservation. He pointed out the issue of global warming due to deforestation and called for heightened environmental care. He urged participants, especially students, to learn from such events and contribute to environmental protection by reducing plastic use.

He shared that awareness messages were sent to 75 lakh people via text and 3 lakh people via email, and that various events including rallies and art competitions were organized in 11 districts with lion populations. He provided statistics on the lion population, stating that a census in 2020 recorded 674 lions in Gir.

Conservation Efforts

Various measures are being undertaken for their conservation, including habitat management, dietary support, and rehabilitation.
