Gujarat and Puducherry Honored at National Water Awards

In a proud moment for Gujarat, the state was recognized at the ‘National Water Award’ ceremony in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu awarded Gujarat and Puducherry third place in the Excellent State category for their efforts in water management.

Leadership and Initiatives

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Water Resources Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya, Gujarat has focused on ensuring pure water reaches every corner of the state. The Central Water Commission’s assessment placed Gujarat third, following Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.

Innovative Water Management

Gujarat has implemented over 5,000 water conservation structures and invested Rs 800 crore in water programs. The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana expanded micro-irrigation to 2.8 lakh hectares, with Rs 500 crore allocated for irrigation systems.

Significant Investments

The state invested Rs 1,000 crore in water technology and farmer training, and Rs 200 crore in Water Users Associations. The ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ aims for 100% rural tap connections by 2025, with Rs 3,500 crore invested.

Urban and Rural Water Supply

Under the ‘Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation’, Rs 2,000 crore is allocated for urban water supply. Rs 150 crore is invested in groundwater recharge wells, and Rs 50 crore in water purification projects.

Technological Advancements

Gujarat leads in water resource technology, with initiatives improving water conservation and agricultural productivity. The state stands out in the National Water Awards for its achievements.
