On Sunday, a grenade attack at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) and the weekly market in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, left twelve people injured, including one woman. The attack occurred around 2:10 PM when terrorists threw a grenade at a security force deployment near the crowded Sunday Market. The explosion injured twelve civilians, with one woman sustaining serious injuries.

Police Response and Investigation

The Srinagar Police have invoked sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against those involved in the attack. A case has been registered under various sections, including the Explosives Substances Act, at the Kothibagh Police Station, and an investigation is underway.

Condemnation from the Chief Minister

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, stating that there is no justification for targeting innocent civilians. He emphasized the need for the security forces to end the recent spate of attacks to ensure the safety of the public.

Immediate Response and Hospitalization

Security forces quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured were taken to the hospital. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, visited the Govt SHMS Hospital to check on the injured.

Context of Recent Violence

The attack follows the killing of a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander in an encounter in Srinagar’s Khanyar area. The commander, identified as Usman, was involved in the murder of Inspector Masroor. Additionally, two terrorists were killed in a separate encounter in Anantnag district.
