Graeme Smith Excited for Star-Studded Season 3 of SA20 League Starting January 2025
New Delhi, India – Graeme Smith, the Commissioner of the SA20 League, is thrilled about the exceptional talent set to feature in Season 3 of South Africa’s T20 competition, which begins on January 9, 2025. With franchises confirming their retained and pre-signed players, Smith expressed confidence in the strong squads assembled for the upcoming season and the player auction in Cape Town on October 1.
Smith highlighted the success of the first two seasons, noting that world-class cricket in front of capacity crowds has positioned Betway SA20 as a top-tier franchise league globally. International stars like Dinesh Karthik, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Trent Boult, Johnny Bairstow, Devon Conway, Zak Crawley, Rashid Khan, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have committed to their respective SA20 teams.
Smith said, “The hard work that the League and franchises have put in to create a world-class experience has paid off, and we thank everyone involved for their monumental efforts.” He added that the inclusion of international players alongside local heroes like Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, and Heinrich Klaasen sets up an explosive season.
Following the pre-signing and retention window, franchises will have 13 picks to make at the Auction in Cape Town on October 1, 2024. Each franchise will also need to select their Season 3 Rookie, and three franchises still have a wildcard to announce before December 30.
Season 3 of the Betway SA20 will take place from January 9 to February 8, 2025, with fixtures to be announced soon.
