The Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, inaugurated a two-day conference for Vice Chancellors on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh. In his speech, Kataria emphasized the need for an educational framework that balances India’s cultural heritage with modern skills. He praised Punjab’s education system and encouraged the integration of talent recognition, language inclusivity, and rigorous teacher selection.

Kataria highlighted the importance of nurturing students’ unique strengths and incorporating regional languages into university curricula to ease transitions for students from regional-language schools. He also stressed the need for a strict teacher selection process and anti-paper leakage measures to maintain educational integrity.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains discussed Punjab’s progress in educational reforms, focusing on infrastructure, teacher training, and student achievements. Prof Ved Prakash and Prof Ganesan Kannabiran spoke on internationalization and advancements in accreditation, respectively. Dr Avichal Kapoor outlined NEP 2020’s student-centered approach.

The conference aimed to foster collaboration on NEP 2020’s potential to enhance Punjab’s education sector. A round-table discussion followed, where Vice Chancellors and Directors shared insights on implementing NEP and highlighted their institutions’ achievements.
