Government e Marketplace (GeM) Sees Huge Growth in First Quarter of FY25

New Delhi, India – The Government e Marketplace (GeM) has reported a significant increase in its Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) for the first quarter of the financial year 2024-2025. The GMV reached Rs 1,24,761 Lakh crore, marking a 136% growth compared to the same period last year.

Services Segment Leads the Way

The services segment was the main contributor, achieving a GMV of over Rs 80,500 crore, which is a 330% increase from the previous year. Central Government bodies also saw a substantial rise in procurement, reaching Rs 42,500 crore.

Top Procurers

Ministries of Coal, Defence, and Petroleum & Gas were the top procurers, with the total procurement by Central Ministries and CPSEs surpassing Rs 1 Lakh crore.

New Initiatives and Programs

GeM is planning to launch the ‘GeM SAHAYAK’ program, aiming to create a network of 7000 trained and certified trainers to assist sellers and buyers on the platform. Additionally, the portal has reduced transaction charges for sellers, making it more competitive.

The Aabhar Collection

GeM also introduced ‘The Aabhar Collection,’ featuring over 120 hand-crafted gift items from the One District One Product (ODOP) and Geographical Indication (GI) categories.

Training and Partnerships

During the quarter, GeM signed MoUs with various organizations and conducted over 320 training sessions. The portal’s new interactive and multilingual training courses saw significant user registration.

Launched in 2016, GeM aims to create a robust e-procurement landscape, transforming a fragmented system into a comprehensive one-stop solution for government buyers and sellers across India.
