In Gopalganj, Bihar, a tragic incident involving the consumption of spurious liquor has resulted in the deaths of 33 people. The Gopalganj Superintendent of Police, Awdhesh Dixit, announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating the case. So far, 14 individuals have been arrested, and raids have been conducted at over 200 locations.

SP Awdhesh Dixit stated, “Two people have died in suspicious circumstances, and 4-5 are under treatment. We are identifying those who may have consumed illicit liquor and taking action. We have seized and destroyed over 5000 litres of raw materials and around 350 litres of liquor.”

Meanwhile, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad commented on the situation, emphasizing the government’s effective response and the instructions given by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to the DGP. He stated, “This is painful. The government is working very effectively. A committee has been formed, and those responsible will be punished.”

The death toll includes 28 in Siwan and 5 in Saran, sparking a political debate over the effectiveness of the liquor ban imposed by the Nitish Kumar government.
