Google and Tamil Nadu Team Up to Boost AI and Manufacturing
Google has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to build a strong AI-enabled ecosystem in the state. The focus areas include start-up enablement, skilling, and the industrial ecosystem, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to create impactful and scalable AI solutions.

The MoU was exchanged at Google’s Mountain View office, attended by Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin and Industries Minister Dr. TRB Rajaa. The agreement was signed by Amit Zavery, GM/VP and Head of Platform of Google Cloud, and Nanda Ramachandran, Vice President of the Pixel Business Unit at Google, along with officials from Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state’s nodal agency for investment promotion and facilitation.

As part of this collaboration, Google will work closely with Guidance Tamil Nadu to support the development of an AI ecosystem by providing access to advanced technologies and resources. This initiative aims to empower individuals, businesses, and government entities to harness AI for inclusive growth and progress.

The collaboration will focus on several key pillars, including the manufacturing of Made in India Pixel 8 devices in Tamil Nadu, upskilling the workforce with AI capabilities, and exploring AI learning initiatives under the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ upskilling platform. Google will also work with Tamil Nadu’s startup ecosystem to offer mentorship and networking opportunities, and provide eligible AI startups with Cloud credits, technical training, and business support.
To empower Tamil Nadu’s MSMEs, Google and its partners will collaborate with the Government to leverage Google Cloud’s AI on open networks marketplace. These efforts aim to streamline access, automate processes, enhance decision-making, and promote innovation through technology adoption.
