Gold Seized at Trichy Airport: 1.666 kg Gold Found in Passenger’s Luggage

Officials from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1.666 kilograms of gold from a passenger at Trichy airport in Tamil Nadu. The gold, valued at Rs 1.19 crores, was hidden in an electric circular saw brought by a male passenger arriving from Singapore.

According to an official from the Customs Department, the passenger traveled from Singapore to Trichy on June 24. The gold was detected based on specific intelligence, and further investigation is ongoing.

Earlier this month, AIU officers at Trichy airport seized 1024 grams of 24K gold valued at Rs 73.32 lakh from another passenger. The gold was extracted from paste form and concealed in the passenger’s rectum. The passenger was arrested, and investigations are in progress.
