Goa CM Pramod Sawant Announces New Pension Scheme and Land Use Ban
The Goa cabinet, led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, has introduced the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for government employees. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Monday.
Unified Pension Scheme (UPS)
CM Sawant stated, “In today’s Cabinet meeting, two major decisions have been taken by the government of Goa. A unified pension scheme has been implemented in Goa as per the norms of the Central government. It is a matter of happiness for the government employees.”
The UPS guarantees a lifelong pension of 50% of the last drawn salary. Unlike the National Pension System (NPS), which is based on the accumulated contributions of the employee and the government, the UPS requires employees to contribute 10% of their salary to the pension fund. The scheme will come into effect on April 1, 2025.
Ban on Land Use Change
CM Sawant also announced a ban on land use changes in the state. He said, “The second major decision taken is that land use change has been banned by the Goa government.”
The cabinet approved an amendment to the Code of Communidade, which restricts the change of land use. Land designated for a specific purpose cannot be used for any other objective.
