In New Delhi, scholars and monks from around the world came together for the International Abhidhamma Divas. This event focused on how Buddha’s teachings, preserved in the Pali language, can address modern issues like climate change, economic struggles, and social conflicts.

Over 2,000 participants, including scholars, diplomats, and youth, attended the event organized by the International Buddhist Confederation and the Ministry of Culture. Bhadant Rahul Bodhi Mahathero of the United Buddhist Mission discussed the deep insights of Abhidhamma teachings on human consciousness and ethics. Bhikkhuni Shakya Dhammadina highlighted their impact on health and well-being.
Pali Language Revival
Mahesh Deokar from Savitribai Phule University traced the historical journey of the Pali language, while Pranshu Samadarshi of Nalanda University noted its revival due to increased global interest in Buddhist studies.
Prime Minister’s Initiatives
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced initiatives to preserve and promote Pali, emphasizing its cultural significance. He highlighted efforts like digitization, educational apps, and academic projects to keep the language alive. PM Modi also performed the Chivar Dana ceremony and interacted with senior Buddhist monks.
Recognition and Exhibitions
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat expressed gratitude for Pali’s recognition as a classical language, promoting Indian culture and Buddhist studies. The event featured exhibitions on Pali’s spread in Southeast Asia and Buddha’s life and teachings.
