New Delhi, India – Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh questioned why RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav did not pursue Special Category Status for Bihar when he was allied with Congress and both parties were in power. Singh pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated significant funds for Bihar’s development.

Singh’s comments were in response to Yadav’s demand for Nitish Kumar’s resignation over the failure to secure special status for Bihar. Yadav accused Kumar of betraying Bihar’s pride and aspirations for power.

JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar recently pressed for special status for Bihar in an all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. However, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated that special status cannot be granted to Bihar based on a 2012 Inter-Ministerial Group report.

Bihar Congress chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh urged the central government to amend provisions to grant special status to Bihar. RJD leader Manoj Jha and JD(U) MP Devesh Chandra Thakur also emphasized the ongoing demand for special status, accusing the central government of withholding it despite having the capability to grant it.
