Ghulam Nabi Azad Denies Joining Congress Amid Jammu and Kashmir Election Preparations

Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Chief of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), has denied rumors about rejoining the Congress party. Jammu and Kashmir Congress Chief, Tariq Hameed Karra, confirmed this on Sunday, stating that the matter is now closed.

Earlier, DPAP issued a circular addressing these rumors, clarifying that Azad has not approached any Congress leaders, nor have they approached him. The circular urged party members and the media to ignore these baseless rumors.

Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir minister, Taj Mohiuddin, announced his resignation from DPAP and his intention to rejoin Congress, describing it as a ‘homecoming.’ He mentioned that he is rejoining with Azad’s consent and expressed his desire to contest in the upcoming elections if given a ticket by Congress.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will be held in three phases from September 18 to October 1, with vote counting on October 4. This will be the first assembly election in the region since 2014, following the fall of the PDP-BJP coalition government in June 2018.
