In Hyderabad, Telangana, the Sadar Festival is set to take place, featuring a special guest, ‘Gholu-2’, a champion Murrah buffalo bull from Haryana. Weighing around 2 tons and standing 7 feet tall, Gholu-2 is a highlight of the festival, which is celebrated two days after Diwali in Khairatabad, Hyderabad.

The Sadar Festival

The Sadar Festival is an annual event organized by the Yadav community. It involves a vibrant procession of decorated buffaloes parading through the streets, showcasing pride and devotion. Congress MP Anil Kumar Yadav mentioned that the festival’s expenses are covered with the support of Telangana’s Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government. The festival is a cultural celebration where cows and buffaloes are worshipped.

Special Attractions

Edla Haribabu, the organizer and Telangana State General Secretary of the All India Yadav Mahasabha, announced that the festival will feature five majestic buffalo bulls from Haryana and Punjab, including Gholu-2, Srikrishna, Vidayak, Basha, and Shera. Gholu-2’s owner, Narendra Singh, has been honored with the Padma Shri award. Gholu-2’s diet includes apples, bananas, dry fruits, milk, and ghee, and it receives special care with air-conditioned transport, walking exercises, and massages.

History and Significance

The Sadar Festival has been celebrated since 1942, initiated by the Yadav community. It welcomes people from all religions and backgrounds, especially attracting the youth. Buffaloes from across the country participate, and the event is marked by decorated buffaloes parading before crowds. The Murrah breed, known for its high yield, is primarily found in Haryana’s Rohtak and Jind districts, as well as in Western Uttar Pradesh.
