India’s Renewable Energy Targets

At COP26 in 2021, India committed to several ambitious goals, including reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, generating half of all energy requirements from renewables, and reducing emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030. India also aims to reduce the emissions intensity of GDP by 45% and achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.

Germany’s Role

Schulze highlighted Germany’s technical know-how and experience in renewable energy, stating that Germany wants to help India meet its 500 GW renewable energy target. She stressed the importance of India stepping up its engagement in renewable energies to tackle global climate challenges.

New Joint Platform

India and Germany launched the India-Germany Platform for Investments in Renewable Energies Worldwide, a key initiative under their Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP). This platform aims to bring together companies interested in investing in India’s renewable energy sector and address challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises.
