Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], September 16: German Development Minister, Svenja Schulze, greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Germany Pavilion during the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024. Schulze is on a three-day visit to Gujarat, representing Germany as a partner country at the conference dedicated to renewable energy.

Schulze is accompanied by a business delegation of twenty representatives from the renewables sector. During the conference, she will discuss closer cooperation on expanding renewable energy sources with the Indian government. India aims to become the second-largest solar producer worldwide.

PM Modi inaugurated RE-INVEST 2024 in Gandhinagar. Hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the three-day conference is expected to draw over 10,000 delegates, including influential figures from government, industry, and financial sectors. The central theme is Mission 500 GW, highlighting India’s goal to expand its renewable energy capacity significantly by 2030.

Schulze described the Indo-German cooperation on energy transition as a ‘success story’ for all sides. She emphasized that India’s renewable energy boom is beneficial for providing affordable energy, creating jobs, and contributing to a stable climate. Germany also stands to benefit through investments and expert exchange programs.

Indo-German sustainability cooperation involves projects worth roughly 1 billion euros a year, 90% of which is provided as loans raised by KfW bank in Germany. India repays these loans with interest.
