German Minister Svenja Schulze Praises Ahmedabad Metro’s Green Initiative
German Development Minister Svenja Schulze praised India’s focus on eco-friendly metro transport during her visit to Gujarat. She highlighted the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a successful example of Indo-German cooperation.

Schulze met Prime Minister Modi at the Germany Pavilion during the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024. She also visited the newly inaugurated Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project.

Schulze is on a three-day visit to Gujarat, representing Germany at the investor conference dedicated to renewable energy. She is accompanied by a business delegation of twenty representatives from the renewables sector.
Part of the 600 million euro project was financed through a loan under German development cooperation. Electrification was done by the German technology company Siemens.

The new metro line is expected to serve 120,000 passengers daily initially, rising to 330,000 over the next 30 years. It will also save 50,000 tonnes of CO2 annually and provide affordable transport for commuters from poorer neighborhoods and women.
