German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Visit to India

German Mohotsav in India

German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, described the latter half of October as a ‘German Mohotsav,’ with Scholz and a delegation of seven to eight ministers visiting New Delhi for Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC). The visit coincides with the Asia Pacific conference of German business, bringing high-ranking German CEOs to discuss business in India and Asia.

Defence Cooperation

Defence cooperation between India and Germany is a key focus, with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius discussing ongoing activities and future collaborations. The ministers are preparing for a bilateral meeting during the IGC.

Previous Engagements

Scholz’s previous visit to India in February 2023 included a business delegation and discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They released a paper on enhancing cooperation in innovation and technology. In 2022, Modi visited Berlin for the 6th Indo-German IGC, focusing on digital transformation and signing a Joint Declaration of Intent for a Green and Sustainable Development Partnership.
