At COP26, India committed to ambitious renewable energy targets, including reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Scholz noted the significant number of Indian students in Germany, which has increased by 50% since 2022.

Strengthening Strategic Ties

Scholz addressed questions about India’s role as an economic partner and emphasized the importance of international law in the Indo-Pacific region. He mentioned the presence of German naval ships in Goa as part of Germany’s Indo-Pacific deployment.

Chancellor’s Visit Highlights

This visit marks Scholz’s third trip to India since 2021. He co-chaired the 7th Intergovernmental Consultations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended the Asia Pacific Conference of German Business. India and Germany celebrate 50 years of Science and Technology collaboration this year.
