German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann Meets Rahul Gandhi
On Thursday, German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann met with Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, in New Delhi. They discussed Indian politics and Indo-German relations. Germany’s Renewable Energy Investment in India
Earlier in the week, Svenja Schulze, Germany’s Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, spoke about Germany’s expertise in renewable energy and its plans to invest in India. Schulze stated, ‘With this technical know-how, we want to invest in India, bringing India nearer to its 500 GW renewable energy target.’
Schulze made these remarks during the Re-Invest 2024 event in Gandhinagar, which focuses on renewable energy. She emphasized the importance of fostering renewable energies for both countries and highlighted India’s commitments made at COP26 in 2021, including reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
Strengthening Indo-German Partnership
At the Re-Invest 2024 event, Schulze mentioned that Germany had brought a large delegation to India to deepen the partnership between the two nations. She said, ‘We want to foster renewable energies. We are convinced that the big challenges of the world, climate change, we can’t solve these problems, but we need India to do so.’
Schulze concluded by stressing the need for India to enhance its engagement in renewable energies, an area where Germany has significant expertise.
