General Anil Chauhan Talks About Changing Warfare at 25th Anniversary of Kargil War

New Delhi, India – Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan spoke about the rapid changes in warfare due to technology and the need for the armed forces to adapt. He addressed Army officers, junior commissioned officers (JCOs), and soldiers from the 18 Grenadiers during the Silver Jubilee Commemoration Ceremony of the ‘Battle of Tiger Hill’ under Operation Vijay.

Importance of Change

General Chauhan emphasized that change is a constant, citing Lord Krishna from the Mahabharat and philosopher Heraclitus. He also mentioned Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, stressing that adaptability is crucial for survival, not just for species but also for organizations.

Remembering the Heroes

General Chauhan recalled the bravery of soldiers in the battles of Tololing and Tiger Hill, which were pivotal in the Kargil War. He honored the soldiers who sacrificed their lives and highlighted the importance of maintaining the trust and prestige earned by the armed forces.

Modern Warfare

He discussed the concept of multi-domain warfare, which includes cyber, electromagnetic spectrum, and space domains, in addition to traditional domains like land, sea, and air. He stressed that the armed forces must embrace these changes to maintain their edge.

Kargil War Legacy

The Kargil War of 1999 was a defining moment for India, showcasing the valor and strategy of the Indian Army. The 18 Grenadiers played a crucial role, earning 52 honors, including a Param Vir Chakra. The battles of Tololing and Tiger Hill are symbols of India’s resilience and determination.

The 25th anniversary of the Kargil War serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Indian Army and the need to remain vigilant and adaptive in the face of new challenges.
