Gautam Gambhir Becomes Team India’s New Head Coach

New Delhi [India], July 9: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Roger Binny announced that Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of Team India. Gambhir, a former cricketer known for his memorable performances as a left-handed opener, recently served as the team mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Under his guidance, KKR won their third IPL trophy this season.

Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach concluded after India won the T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI President Roger Binny thanked Dravid for his brilliant run with the team and expressed confidence in Gambhir’s ability to lead the team forward. Binny stated, “Team India now embarks on a journey under a new coach – Mr Gautam Gambhir. His experience, dedication, and vision for the game make him the ideal candidate to guide our team forward.”

BCCI Vice-president Rajeev Shukla also congratulated Gambhir, highlighting his illustrious career and profound cricketing insights. Shukla said, “We are excited about the positive impact he will bring to Indian cricket. Best wishes for a successful tenure.”

BCCI Treasurer Ashish Shelar praised Gambhir’s proven credentials as a champion player and his winning mentality. Shelar added, “His leadership and mentorship qualities on and off the field have been inspiring. I am confident that he will shine bright in this new role.”

Earlier in the day, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah officially announced Gambhir’s appointment as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.
