Gaurav Gogoi Calls for Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s Resignation Over Train Accidents

Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi has demanded the resignation of Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, accusing him of not taking moral responsibility for recent train accidents. Gogoi referred to Vaishnaw as the ‘derailment minister’ and highlighted the Balasore incident, which resulted in around 300 deaths, as a significant reason for his call for resignation.

On Thursday, Vaishnaw responded to criticisms by stating that the government focuses on hard work rather than making reels. He emphasized the importance of the Railway as the lifeline of the country and urged parliament to depoliticize the Railways and work towards its improvement.

Recently, on July 30, two people were killed after several coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand. Earlier, on June 2, a tragic triple train accident involving the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express, and a goods train claimed 291 lives and injured over 1000. Additionally, on June 17, at least 10 people died and over 25 were injured after a goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjungha Express near New Jalpaiguri.
