On July 21, Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, and Pramod Tiwari, Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha, will attend an all-party meeting ahead of the budget session. The meeting will be led by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju and will take place at 11:00 am in the Main Committee Room, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi.

The budget session of Parliament will start on July 22 and may conclude on August 12, depending on government business requirements.

Halwa Ceremony Marks Final Stage of Budget Preparation

On July 16, the Halwa ceremony, a traditional event marking the final stage of budget preparation, was held in North Block. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary, and other officials participated in the ceremony. The Halwa ceremony involves preparing a sweet dish in a large ‘kadhai’ and serving it to everyone involved in the budget-making process.

This ceremony also signifies the beginning of the lockdown at the finance ministry, where officials are not allowed to leave the ministry compound until the budget is presented in Parliament. The printing of the Union Budget has been a tradition in the North Block basement since 1980.
