Gas Leak at Kuala Lumpur Airport: 39 People Fall Ill
At least 39 people became ill after a gas leak at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia. The incident occurred at an aircraft engineering facility separate from the passenger terminal. Fire services reported that the chemical leak involved methyl mercaptan, a substance added to gas to detect leaks by its rotten cabbage smell.
Local rescue officer Muhammad Nur Khairi Samsumin stated that the affected individuals experienced dizziness and nausea. One person was hospitalized, and fourteen others were treated at the air disaster unit. All impacted individuals work for three companies using the site.
Authorities assured that there was no increased risk to public safety, and the incident did not affect travelers or flights. The gas leak originated from a skid tank that had been neglected for nine years.
