Former Indian Olympic medalist shooter and chef-de-mission at the Paris Olympics, Gagan Narang, has called on people to celebrate all athletes representing India. He emphasized that while medals are important, it is equally crucial to acknowledge the athletes’ years of hard work and sacrifice.

Indian Contingent’s Performance

The Indian team at the Paris Olympics has had a mixed performance. In shooting, India has won three medals so far. Manu Bhaker narrowly missed a third medal, finishing fourth in the 25m pistol shooting. However, she secured two medals: one in the women’s 10m air pistol event and another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed-team event with Sarabjot Singh. Swapnil won a bronze in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event.

Other Sports Achievements

In table tennis, Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula reached the Round of 16. The Indian Men’s Hockey Team defeated Australia in a Group stage match and will face Great Britain in the quarterfinals. In archery, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat finished fourth in the mixed team event, securing India’s best result in archery at the Summer Games.

In badminton, PV Sindhu and the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were eliminated after hard-fought battles. Boxer Preeti Sai Panwar was also eliminated in the women’s 54 kg Round of 16. Shooter Ramita reached the final in the Rifle event but missed out on a medal.

Narang expressed his delight at the athletes’ performances and congratulated all medal winners and major achievers.
