Gaby Lewis Aims to Become Ireland’s Greatest Cricketer
Gaby Lewis, a 23-year-old cricketer from Ireland, has already broken numerous batting records and now aims to become the greatest Irish player of all time. She made her international debut at just 13 years old and has since become Ireland’s top T20I run-scorer and one of only 11 female players to score multiple T20I centuries.
Lewis is determined to surpass former Irish international Miriam Grearly’s record in 50-over cricket. She also aims to excel against top teams in ICC tournaments. “My goal is to be the greatest Irish player that’s ever played,” Lewis said. “I need to take the opportunities when we play against higher-ranked teams and dominate those games.”
Two years ago, Lewis became the youngest player to captain the Ireland Women’s team. Recently, she led the team again when regular skipper Laura Delany was injured. Although sidelined by a quad injury, Lewis is keen to continue developing her leadership skills.
Lewis has also completed her radiography degree at University College in Dublin, allowing her to focus more on cricket. “My greatest challenge over the last four years has been balancing cricket and my degree. I’m excited to put all my focus into cricket over the next couple of years,” she concluded.
