The ministers expressed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific, advocating for peaceful dispute resolutions without force. They also showed support for Ukraine, expressed concerns about the Middle East conflict, and condemned North Korea’s nuclear activities.
The statement criticized China’s maritime claims in the South China Sea, opposing its obstruction of navigation and militarization of disputed areas. The ministers also voiced concerns over China’s support for Russia’s war economy and the growing military cooperation between China and Russia.
In response, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the G7 for their support in maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait and pledged to strengthen cooperation with G7 nations to uphold democracy, freedom, and human rights in the Indo-Pacific region.
