French President Macron Believes India Can Host 2036 Olympics

Paris [France], August 13: French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed confidence in India’s ability to host the 2036 Olympics. Speaking to Jio Cinema, Macron said, “First of all, I am a strong believer in your country and the future of your country. And what you can build and your capacity to organise such events. I think this is a fierce competition. You should not underestimate that fact.”

Macron recalled France’s own experience competing with the US for the Olympics, highlighting the intense competition involved. He believes that competing itself is a great preparation.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his vision for India’s sporting future. Speaking to the para-athletes contingent in Delhi after the successful Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, PM Modi said, “We are trying to host the 2030 Youth Olympics and 2036 Olympics.” He emphasized that the government’s approach is “athlete-centric” and that India is growing as a “sporting society.”

India has made significant strides in multi-sport events over the years. In the recent Asian Games and Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, India crossed the 100-medal mark for the first time, ending with 107 and 111 medals respectively. India also captured 61 medals in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, with their best medal count being 101 at home in 2010. In the Paris Olympics, India finished in 71st place, while the United States topped the medals tally with 126 medals.
