French Ambassador Visits Sikkim to Celebrate Organic Farming Success

French Ambassador to India, Thierry Mathou, visited Sikkim to commend its achievements in sustainable agriculture. Sikkim is the world’s first state to adopt 100% organic farming, a milestone that has made it a global leader in environmental stewardship.

Sikkim’s Organic Journey

The transformation began in 2010 with the Sikkim Organic Mission, leading to the state being declared fully organic by 2016. This initiative aligns with the shared goals of France and India in addressing global environmental challenges.

Strengthening Ties

During his visit, Mathou met with Sikkim’s Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, and other officials to discuss cooperation in climate change mitigation and sustainable development. He praised Sikkim’s balanced approach to environmental protection and economic growth.

Diplomatic Engagement

Accompanied by a delegation, Mathou’s visit from November 10 to 13, 2024, aimed to strengthen diplomatic ties between France and India, focusing on climate action and biodiversity conservation.
