Four Children Die from Suspected Food Poisoning at Indore’s Shri Yugpurush Dham Baudhik Vikas Kendra
Indore, Madhya Pradesh – The death toll of children in a suspected food poisoning incident at Shri Yugpurush Dham Baudhik Vikas Kendra has risen to four, with around 30 children now sick. All affected children are receiving treatment at Government Chacha Nehru Hospital.
Increasing Number of Sick Children
Dr. Preeti Malpani, Superintendent of Chacha Nehru Hospital, reported that five more children were admitted in the afternoon, one of whom was brought dead. Later, four more children were admitted, and nine more arrived in the evening.
Details of the Incident
Earlier, 12 children from an ashram on Panchkuiya Road were admitted with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. These children are disabled, visually impaired, and mentally abnormal. The deaths of three children were initially reported, with one dying on June 30 and two on July 1. A fresh death on Tuesday increased the toll to four.
Investigation Underway
ADM Rajendra Raghuvanshi stated that an investigation is ongoing, with teams of doctors, food safety officials, and municipal corporations involved. The Food Safety Department has collected samples, and the cause of the incident will be determined after examination. Postmortems of two children have been conducted, and a detailed report is awaited.
Official Statements
Collector Ashish Singh mentioned that an investigation committee led by the ADM has been formed to review the postmortem report and conditions at the site. The primary focus is on ensuring proper treatment for the admitted children and preventing further cases. The institution, operated by an NGO, houses children with disabilities and orphans.
