Four Bangladeshi citizens were intercepted by Assam police while attempting to enter India through the Karimganj sector of the India-Bangladesh border. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the incident.

Details of the Incident

According to CM Sarma, the Bangladeshi citizens have been identified as Motiur Seikh, Mushiar Mullah, Tania Mullah, and Rita Mullah. The police intervened at the zero point and prevented their unauthorized entry.

Previous Operations

Earlier, on August 10, BSF troops, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Police, apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals along with two Indian facilitators at a checkpoint. All were handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.

Increased Security Measures

The Border Security Force (BSF) is on high alert along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam due to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh. District Commissioner Mridul Yadav stated that the Integrated Check Post (ICP) has been closed, halting both import-export and the movement of people. An army company is also providing additional security.

Bangladesh is facing political unrest after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5 amid mounting protests. An interim government led by Professor Mohd. Younus has taken charge. The protests began in early July over demands to reform the quota system for civil service jobs, leading to violence in Dhaka.
