Four Arrested in Mumbai for Illegal Sale of Endangered Red Sand Boa Snake
In Mumbai, Maharashtra, police have arrested four individuals for attempting to illegally sell a red sand boa snake, an endangered species. The arrests were made by the Cuffe Parade Police on Tuesday. The accused are Narsingh Dhoti, 40, and Shiva Adap, 18, from Telangana, along with Ravi Bhoir, 54, from Mulund, Mumbai, and Arvind Gupta, 26, from Mumbara, Thane.
The police received a tip-off about a planned sale near Maker Chambers, where the snake was allegedly intended for use in medicine and black magic. Acting on this information, the police intercepted a suspicious SUV and found the snake inside a red bag. The snake weighed approximately 5 kg and measured 55 inches in length.
Red sand boa snakes are protected under schedule-four of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, and their sale or export is illegal. The snake, valued at Rs 30 lakh, has been handed over to the forest department. A case has been registered under the relevant sections, according to police officials.
