Former Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji Released from Prison
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 26: Former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji was released from Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai on Thursday. He stated that the case against him was a ‘fake case’ and a political vendetta. Balaji expressed his gratitude to DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and DMK Youth Wing Secretary Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on June 14 last year in connection with a money laundering case linked to a cash-for-jobs scam. He had been in judicial custody since then. Despite multiple bail rejections by various courts, including the Madras High Court and Chennai Sessions Court, the Supreme Court granted him bail, leading to his release.
The charges against Balaji date back to his tenure as the Transport Minister during the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government from 2011 to 2015. He joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in December 2018 and became the electricity minister after the party came to power in May 2021.
