Kannauj (Uttar Pradesh), August 12: Nawab Singh Yadav, a former leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), was arrested on Monday for allegedly attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl. The incident was reported by the Kannauj Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar Anand.

Incident Details

SP Amit Kumar Anand shared that a distress call was received around 1:30 am on UP 112, where a girl reported that she had been stripped and an attempt of assault had been made on her. The police immediately reached the spot, rescued the girl, and arrested Nawab Singh Yadav in an objectionable condition.

Legal Proceedings

Advocate Naveen Kumar Dubey stated that Nawab Singh Yadav was produced in court and, after hearing arguments from both sides, was sent to jail for 14 days. The girl revealed during questioning that she had arrived at Yadav’s residence with her paternal aunt under the pretext of a job offer. A case was registered under sections of the BNS and POCSO Acts, and further investigation is underway.

Reactions and Statements

Nawab Singh Yadav claimed that the accusations were a conspiracy by capitalists and that despite the victim’s denial, multiple medical tests were being conducted. The Samajwadi Party distanced itself from Yadav, with District President Kaleem Khan stating that Yadav had not been an active member for about five years.

SP leader Juhie Singh demanded a narco test, a DNA test, and concrete evidence before any accusations were made. She emphasized that justice should be served if the girl was molested. SP MLA Ravidas Mehrotra also stated that Yadav had no connection with the party for the last 5-6 years and called for strict action against the guilty.

Former BJP MP from Kannauj, Subrat Pathak, criticized the incident, highlighting a similar case involving SP leader Moeed Khan in Ayodhya. Pathak questioned the safety of women under the current government and the potential consequences if the SP formed the government.
