Former Puducherry Government Assistant S. Manivannan Sentenced to 5 Years for Bribery
S. Manivannan, who used to work as an assistant in the Puducherry government, has been sentenced to five years in prison and fined Rs 20,000. He was found guilty of demanding a bribe of Rs 3,000 to process a Visa Extension for someone’s mother.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against him on July 31, 2014. Manivannan had asked for the bribe at his office and threatened that the Visa Extension papers would not be sent if the bribe was not paid. The CBI set a trap and caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe.
After completing the investigation, a chargesheet was filed on October 14, 2014. The Special Judge in Puducherry found him guilty after the trial and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000.
