Islamabad [Pakistan], June 24: Abbas Khan Afridi, a former federal minister and Senator, has announced his departure from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and politics. Afridi, who ran for elections in 2024 from Kohat, cited disillusionment with the political landscape, describing it as based on lies and hypocrisy. This follows the recent resignation of former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair from PML-N, highlighting internal rifts within the party.

Key Details

Abbas Khan Afridi stated, “I am quitting PML-N as well as politics.” He emphasized that he will not join any political party in the future, as his politics ended with his leader, Nawaz Sharif.

In the 2024 elections, Afridi ran as a PML-N candidate from Kohat but lost to Shehryar Afridi, an independent candidate supported by PTI, who won the seat of NA-35 with 128,491 votes. Abbas Khan Afridi received 57,184 votes.

Before this, Abbas Afridi served as Nawaz Sharif’s third-term federal minister for textiles and was the second highest taxpayer in the nation in 2013.
