Former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa Charged in Sexual Assault Case
The Crime Investigation Department of Karnataka police has filed a chargesheet against former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa. He is accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl.
Details of the Case
The chargesheet was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case is based on a complaint lodged by the mother of the minor girl in March at the Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru. The mother alleged that Yediyurappa assaulted her daughter during a visit to his residence in February.
Yediyurappa’s Response
Yediyurappa has denied the allegations, stating, “I am not complaining to anyone. Time will decide everything. People know what the truth is. Those who are doing tricks, the people will teach them a lesson.”
Political Reactions
The BJP has claimed that the charges are part of a political conspiracy by the ruling Congress party. Despite the serious allegations, a High Court special bench headed by Justice Krishna Dixit granted bail to Yediyurappa after a non-bailable warrant was issued for his arrest.
