Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior JMM leader Champai Soren has announced his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Soren emphasized his commitment to the development of tribals and the state, citing concerns about Bangladeshi infiltration.

Commitment to Development

Soren stated, “We don’t have the next plan yet. On the 30th, I will join the Bharatiya Janata Party. It is the biggest party in the country. Whatever role the party will give me, I will do it.” He further elaborated, “We will take steps to help the people of Jharkhand, along with the development of the tribals, which is in danger due to Bangladeshi infiltration. I have moved ahead by struggling all the time. I am joining BJP to develop this state and to save the existence of tribals.”

Support for BJP Leadership

Soren expressed his faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said, “Your cooperation is expected in this new chapter of the struggle for the issues and rights of the tribals, natives, Dalits, backward classes, poor, labourers, farmers, women, youth and common people of Jharkhand.”

Reactions from Political Figures

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed Soren’s decision to join the BJP, stating, “Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a distinguished Adivasi leader of our country, Champai Soren, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah a short while ago. He will officially join the BJP on 30th August in Ranchi.”

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit accused the BJP of leveraging prominent figures from rival parties who have “high ambitions.” Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren responded, “The people of the state will decide if there were any shortcomings.” Independent MP Pappu Yadav criticized Soren’s decision, stating that it would erode trust and undermine Hemant Soren’s leadership.

Dismissal of Criticism

Champai Soren dismissed criticism from his former party, JMM, saying he didn’t think it was appropriate to respond. Earlier, Soren hinted at forming a new party, voicing grievances about being “insulted” during his tenure as Chief Minister.
