Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren Resigns from JMM and Joins BJP

On August 28, former Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior leader Champai Soren resigned from all posts and primary membership of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Soren confirmed his resignation in a post on X, pledging to continue the struggle on various issues affecting tribals, natives, Dalits, and other marginalized groups in Jharkhand.

Earlier, Soren announced his decision to join the BJP, expressing his faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He called for cooperation in this new chapter of his political journey.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that Soren would officially join the BJP on August 30 in Ranchi. Soren’s decision has drawn criticism from various political figures. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit accused the BJP of leveraging prominent figures with high ambitions. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated that the people of the state would decide if there were any shortcomings. Independent MP Pappu Yadav criticized the move, saying it would erode trust and undermine Hemant Soren’s leadership.

Despite the criticism, Champai Soren dismissed the negative comments from his former party, JMM, and hinted at forming a new party ahead of the forthcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections.
