Former CM Basavaraj Bommai Calls for Review of Child Development Services in Karnataka

Haveri (Karnataka), July 27 – Former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Basavaraj Bommai has called for a review of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program. He believes the program needs administrative changes and an increased budget.

Speaking to Anganwadi workers, Bommai said, “Children are born, attend Anganwadi centres, and grow up in society. They receive school and college education. Anganwadi workers’ lives should flourish alongside the children. They deserve a life of dignity and self-reliance. I will work towards addressing your demands. The future of children, society, and the country lies in your goodness.”

Bommai emphasized the sacredness of the mother-child relationship and praised Anganwadi workers for nurturing children as their own. He stated, “Anganwadi workers are the ones shaping and determining the future of children in this country. Politicians, legislators, and parliamentarians do not write the country’s future. Mothers and Anganwadi workers do.”

He also mentioned his efforts during his tenure as Chief Minister, including increasing the honorarium for Anganwadi workers and implementing the Stree Samarthya scheme, which provides loans to women. Bommai assured the workers of his continued support and recognition for their service.

The event was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Rudrappa Lamani, Chairman of the Haveri Urban Development Authority SFN Gajigaudar, District President of the All India Trade Unions Federation Honnappa Maremmana, and several women.
