The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked the former Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC), Taman Singh Sonwani, and others for their alleged involvement in recruitment malpractices during the 2020-22 CGPSC exams.

  • The then Controller of Examinations, CGPSC
  • Other unnamed individuals

What Happened?

According to the CBI, the accused allegedly abused their official positions to recruit their sons, daughters, relatives, and acquaintances, who were ineligible candidates, for various senior posts in the state government. These posts included Deputy Collectors, Deputy Superintendents of Police, and other senior positions.

Specific Allegations

It is alleged that:

  • The son of the then CGPSC Chairman was selected as Deputy Collector.
  • His elder brother’s son was selected as Deputy Superintendent of Police.
  • His sister’s daughter was selected as Labour Officer.
  • His son’s wife was selected as Deputy Collector.
  • His brother’s daughter-in-law was selected as District Excise Officer.
  • The then Secretary’s son was also selected as Deputy Collector.

Current Actions

The CBI is conducting searches at various locations, including the residential premises of the former Chairman and Secretary, as well as the official premises of the Controller of Examinations in Raipur and Bhilai. The investigation is ongoing.
