Forest Manager Sanjay Pathak Addresses False Wolf Attack Reports in Bahraich
Forest General Manager Sanjay Pathak has criticized certain media outlets for spreading false reports about recent wolf attacks in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. Pathak stated that jackals were being misidentified as wolves, causing confusion and disrupting operations. He emphasized that no wolves have been detected by the installed thermal cameras.
Pathak explained that the normalizing river water levels and dried-up banks might have led the wolves to return to their natural habitat, which could explain the absence of wolf attacks in the past 6 to 7 days. He warned that further action might be needed if the rumours continue, including involving the district administration and police.
In response to the wolf attacks, the Bahraich district administration has converted the Panchayat Bhawan in Chandpaiya village into a shelter home for villagers without secure homes. Many villagers have taken refuge in these shelters due to fear of wolves and the poor condition of their houses. The shelter home supervisor mentioned that arrangements for drinking water and toilets are adequate, and more provisions will be made as needed.
So far, four wolves have been caught. Drone visuals from Harbaksh Purwa village showed extensive agricultural land under surveillance. Forest officials conducted a search operation on Saturday morning, 2-3 kilometers away from Harbaksh Purwa, using thermal drones to locate and capture the wolves.
