Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra Denies Cancellations During PM Modi’s Visit to Moscow

Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra has firmly denied any cancellations of scheduled programs during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Moscow. Addressing a special briefing from Vienna, Austria, Kwatra refuted claims of friction or disruptions, stating, “PM Modi’s visit to Moscow was successful and there was no cancellation of any programming elements.”

Kwatra also detailed the discussions held by PM Modi, particularly focusing on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He highlighted PM Modi’s engagements with world leaders, including meetings with President Zelenskyy and President Putin, emphasizing India’s consistent call for dialogue and diplomacy.

Kwatra reiterated PM Modi’s stance, stating, “This is not a time of war, and a solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict cannot be found on the battlefield. Wherever innocent lives are lost, it is unacceptable.” He also mentioned the impact of the conflict on the Global South and energy security.

During his visit to Austria, PM Modi met with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Karl Nehammer to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This visit marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Austria in 41 years, with the last visit by Indira Gandhi in 1983. The visit also coincides with 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Austria.
