A tragic stampede occurred at a religious event in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the loss of 116 lives and injuring 18 people. The incident has drawn condolences from several foreign diplomats and Indian leaders.

Condolences from Foreign Diplomats

Israeli Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, described the incident as ‘heartbreaking’ and extended his thoughts to the bereaved families, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, expressed his shock and sadness, offering heartfelt sympathies to the victims’ families and wishing the injured a quick recovery.

British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, also expressed her heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and all those affected.

French Ambassador to India, Thierry Mathou, conveyed his deep sadness and extended condolences to the bereaved families, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, expressed his condolences and hoped for quick assistance to the injured.

Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, shared his sympathies, stating his heart goes out to all those affected by the tragic incident.

Indian Officials’ Response

Chaitra V, Commissioner of Aligarh, confirmed the death toll and the number of injured, ensuring treatment for the injured in Aligarh district. Aligarh Inspector General Shalabh Mathur mentioned that an FIR would be registered against several people, including the event organizers, due to the attendance exceeding the permitted number.

The Uttar Pradesh government announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He assured that the Uttar Pradesh government is providing all possible help to the victims.
