Flower Prices Soar in Ahmedabad’s Jamalpur Market During Shravan Month

In Ahmedabad’s Jamalpur market, flower prices have surged since the beginning of the Shravan month, a sacred period for Hindus worshiping Lord Shiva. Devotees flock to temples, causing a spike in demand for flowers.

Price Increases

Roses, which usually cost 40 to 50 rupees or up to 100 rupees per kilogram, now cost up to 300 to 400 rupees per kilogram. Marigold flowers, typically priced at 30 to 40 rupees per kilogram, now cost 100 to 120 rupees per kilogram. Kesar marigold prices have risen from 40 rupees to 150-200 rupees per kilogram. Garlands, usually 100 rupees per kilogram, now cost 250 to 300 rupees per kilogram. Overall, flower prices have increased by 30 to 70 percent.

Reasons for Price Hike

Jignesh Panchal, a customer, noted the significant price increase but emphasized the importance of using flowers for worship. Flower merchant Zakir Hussain Zheikh explained that rain has disrupted the supply of flowers from regions like Indore, Ujjain, and Nashik, contributing to the price hike.

Despite the higher prices and supply issues, devotees continue to purchase flowers for worship during the sacred Shravan month.
