In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, flower petals were showered from a helicopter over Kanwariyas on Thursday. This event is part of the Kanwar Yatra, a significant ritual where devotees collect holy water from sacred rivers and walk to temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Uttarakhand CM Dhami’s Participation

On Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the ‘Shiv Samagam’ in Haridwar. He released a book titled The Eternal Lord Great Shiva Temples of Uttarakhand, prepared by the Haridwar District Administration. Dhami expressed his honor in serving the Shiva devotees and highlighted the Kanwar Yatra’s role in uniting the country.

Welcoming Kanwar Yatris

On Tuesday, Dhami welcomed the Kanwar Yatris at the Om Pul Ghat near Damkothi in Haridwar by washing their feet and offering garlands, shawls, and Gangajal. The Kanwar Yatra involves devotees, known as Kanwariyas, collecting holy water from rivers like the Ganga and walking to Shiva temples during the sacred month of ‘Sawan’.

The Significance of ‘Sawan’

In the Hindu calendar, ‘Sawan’ or ‘Shravan’ is the fifth month and one of the holiest times of the year. Every Monday during this period is considered highly auspicious for fasting and seeking Lord Shiva’s blessings. The month of ‘Sawan’ began on July 22 this year.
