Floods in Kaziranga National Park: DFO Arun Vignesh Reports Rising Water Levels

Kaziranga National Park in Assam is experiencing severe flooding due to continuous rainfall over the past few days. The water level has risen significantly, inundating 167 camps within the park. DFO Arun Vignesh stated, “This year, the flood situation prevails in Kaziranga National Park. The water level has risen considerably. So far, 167 camps have been inundated, and we have evacuated eight camps.”

With the help of locals and police, vehicle speeds are being strictly regulated to prevent accidents. Vignesh added, “That is why no vehicle hit has happened yet. People are very cooperative. Hope they will continue to cooperate.”

The floods in Assam have claimed 38 lives, with three people drowning in the last 24 hours. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two people died in Tinsukia district and one in Dhemaji district on July 2, bringing the total death toll to 38.

The flood situation has worsened, affecting over 11.34 lakh people across 28 districts, including Kamrup, Tamulpur, Chirang, Morigaon, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Udalguri, Nagaon, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Golaghat, Hojai, Darrang, Charaideo, Nalbari, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Karbi Anglong, Goalpara, Dhemaji, Majuli, Tinsukia, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Cachar, and Kamrup (M).

Lakhimpur district is the most affected, with 165,319 people impacted, followed by Darrang with 147,143 people, and Golaghat with 106,480 people. The floodwaters have submerged 42,476.18 hectares of crop area and affected 2,208 villages under 84 revenue circles.
